Olympic Symbol
What is this?
At the request of Ish Lennox, from the UK Methodist Church Olympics and Para-Olympics Project Team, members of the 1st Slough Boys’ Brigade Company & Senior Sections designed this Prayer Symbol on behalf of the Methodist Church South East District. The District comprises the churches in the towns and villages in a wide curved area from the east to the south of London and also the Methodist congregations on the Mediterranean islands of Malta and Gibraltar. Each Methodist District in the UK has been asked to prepare a symbol and these will be taken from church to church throughout the UK as a means of concentrating prayers for the people involved in the Games of the XXX Olympiad of London 2012. Ours is the first of the Prayer Symbols to be prepared. The photo shows the Prayer Symbol which is in the shape of the cross with the flame above linking the Olympian Torch with the Christian concept of Jesus as the Light of the World. The ends of the horizontal cross piece are convex in reflection of the “banana” shape of the South East District. The boys held a design competition during their Section meeting in November 2011 and the winning concept, designed by a group led by Luc Martin, was made up by Mr Tony Allen. The Prayer Symbols will start their journey from church to church during May 2012.

The Living Hope Project's aim has been to buy a piece of land in Baddomalhi, Pakistan and to build an educational establishment on it. The establishment will provide affordable education for impoverished children in that area. Baddomahli is the village where Imran (Bobby) Malik, a recent member of St Andrew's, grew up. He & his wife, Sarah, are working hard to achieve this and would appreciate your interest & support. Browse their website ~ Living Hope Project ~ or email them ~ school_livinghope@mail.org ~ with your support.
The latest news is that we have bought a piece of land in Baddomalhi, and have started work on it right away! See the picture gallery.
A water pump has been installed, so that the workers have access to fresh water, and for the building. We have also had a boundary wall built, for construction and property purposes.
What we need now is your support! We need to arrange more fundraising events, and spread our message further about the plight of children in Pakistan. We need more money to begin building the school, so that we can begin to source staff and start helping children out of poverty. For this, we need your help.
To find out how we can use your talents, visit We need YOU.
Many thanks,
Imran & Sarah Malik

MOBILE METHODIST PRAYERS
Following a successful pilot, the Methodist Church is now offering free weekly prayer texts to help Methodists join in prayer with hundreds of others on topical and personal issues.
To register for the texts, simply send a text message reading PRAYNOW to 82088. You will be charged your standard network rate. Each week thereafter, you will receive a prayer text free of charge.
As examples, here are a couple of prayers sent recently:
'Lord help me to hear your word speaking into my life through the stranger I meet along the way. Amen.'
'Lord be my shepherd. Lead me beside still waters and restore my soul so that all I do and say reflects you.
Amen'.
The results from the pilot study were very positive. Comments included: “I welcome those prayertime texts, they make me stop and pray whatever I'm doing, wherever I am.”
PRAYNOW reminds us that we are part of a growing community of prayer, whatever may be going on around us.
Would you like to be part of a team of people to operate the projector on Sunday mornings?
IT skills desirable but not essential. Training will be given.
Speak to Dave Sturgeon or Liz Tottingham.
Also, if you would be interested in operating the amplification system,

Wexham Park Hospital Weekly Sunday Service in the Chapel
A request comes via Churches Together in Maidenhead for more teams to offer to lead a half hour service of prayers and hymns at the hospital at 10.30am on a Sunday which is followed by a short communion service led by the hospital chaplain.
Most of the church teams currently participating are from Slough but a team of 6 people from St Luke’s CofE in Maidenhead goes 4 times a year.
The team needs to arrive at 09.30 to prepare by going round the wards to check the list of patients and staff who wish to attend the service. Obviously the more teams which offer to lead worship the less often they are required.
For more information please speak to the chaplains on 01753 633 660.
